Replacing Bachmann E-Z Command decoder with Digitrax DZ126
Posted by chuchuguy on Monday, June 12, 2017 4:46 PM

I recently purchased two N-scale Bachmann 4-6-0 steamers equipped with Bachmann E-Z Command decoders.  Because I'm installing a Surroundtraxx system, I must find a means of tracking locomotives during their travels on the layout (six zones).  That requires a transponding capability.  The Bachmann locos are equipped with E-Z Command decoders that will require replacement with Digitrax DZ126/DZ126T transponding decoders.  I'm not able to find a way to replace the E-Z Command decorders and am wondering if anybody can help.  On the surface it doesn't seem that difficult, but there's a circuit board which hosts the decoder inside the tender that I can't reach to figure out the correct procedure for replacement with DZ126.

You can check the Bachmann site for loco diagrams. I found the below.

If not correct for your loco, check the site for possibly more options including the Parts page.

Thanks Rich.  I'll give that a try.

All my HO Bachmann have labels on the PC board.

I have looked at some N scale and they have the NMRA DCC numbers on the PC board.

There is an N scale forum at the Bachmann site you might like. Lots of good info there.

I have used the older DZ125 decoder in HO locos.
