Atlas n scale shay dcc

Hi All,

Getting an Atlas n scale shay (motor is already isolated from frame)  and want to convert it to dcc using an NCE N12SR.  Any body converted one using this decoder?  I have no trouble using an soldering iron or modifying things to fit.  This is my first non drop in conversion.

I havn't done one, but considering the size it might be easier to use a smaller "Z scale" decoder from one of the other manufacturers.

Thanks, guess I'll do some more research.

I've done two from the first run. Both with TCS M1's. They were the smallest available at the time. A Z2 is smaller and ZIMO's MX621 is smaller yet. I really don't think you will be able to get a N12SR in there. Width and thickness are not bad but it is too long. Here's a link to Ron Beardon's M1 installation in a Shay. He also had an article in N Scale Magazine on this. http://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Content/Installation_Pictures/N_Scale/Atlas/Shay/Shay%20M1%20Advanced.html
