Resetting MRC 1730 decoder???
Posted by hornblower on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 7:08 PM

I picked up one of MRC's #1730 diesel sound decoder for $25.  I figured at that price, it might be worth the gamble.  I installed it in an Athearn Blue Box EMD F7A and it ran beautifully with decent sounds and nice light effects - for about 15 minutes.  The loco then just stopped (no motor, no sound, no lights) and would not respond to any commands ever again. The decoder does not exhibit any heat damage and there was no smoke or smell when it stopped.  I have read here of others using this very decoder with great success so I'd like to find out whether I can reset this decoder before I give up on it.  Unfortunately, there were no instructions included in the package the decoder came in and I can't find any on-line documentation from MRC.  Does anyone know the reset CV and reset value for these decoders?

Copied from the MRC 1730 instructions.

MRC Reset:
Whenever the decoder doesn’t work, please use the program track to program CV125 with value 1 to restore the decoder to factory settings.  This should bring the decoder to life with the address #3.

Edit:
I have four MRC 1730 decoders all working great, the second one had infant mortality and MRC replaced it to me within 5 days.

Edit:
I posted the manual for MRC 1700 series decoder on my Google drive, I didn't check it for word for word against my 1730 manual but I've used it several times for programming my 1730 & 1731 decoders.

Thanks Mel.  I'll give that a shot.
