DCC Specialties Hare and Wabbit
Posted by wickman on Saturday, February 4, 2017 10:47 AM

I have a couple dcc specialties hares and wabbits. I now have the reverse loop rails wired and working as they're suppose. I want to start making the layout dcc a bit more automated for autothrow on turnouts so the train can continue through via autothrow feature of  the Hare and or Wabbit.  Can I use the gaps  I've created  for the reverse loop sections as  well  as take advantage of the insulfrogs insulated frogs?

Thanks

Posted this to give an indication of what I had in mind. If I setup a figure 8 for kids to what trains run,  I want it to be able to continue running.

Per the section in the manual on auto throw, you won;t be able to use the same gaps. Plus it might not be posisble at all with your track configuration - for reverse loops they want the detection gaps on the main side of the reverse gaps - outside of the loop. The detection gaps have to go on the frog side of the turnout, two each on the straight and the diverging route, make just a short section os isolated rail. When the loco or lighted cars hit that short track section, it triggers the Hare to line the turnout. You need to allow enough distance to allow the Tortoise to fully move the points, too. Since in both cases you have effectively a crossover, the sense gaps for the auto throw have to be between the turnouts. That might work with the upper pair, there is enough room, but there is still the conflict with the reverse loop gaps. On the right - that connection between turnouts is too short to give enough time for the Tortoise to move.

It MIGHT work with just one sense gap in the straight route. It's not very likely that you'd set one turnout to cross over and the other not to, and when set to cross over, when the train comeas back acround on the straight route, it's running against the points and that needs to be fixed. It doesn;t say anything in the instructions about using just one sense section, but you could test it on the workbench and see. There's still the issue of the reverse loop gaps. The configuration is pretty well illustrated in the hare instructions.

Thanks Randy for the input , I had a sort of same setup on last layout , this will take some experimenting and special rules for running continuous.
