Rich,
Thank you. Did get it to run for awhile with chuff, whistle and bell, then sounds quit. Will have to see what those CV's are set at. May be that the "not the best" decoder is the major problem. I didn't clean the wheels tonight, but will as soon as I get a chance. Is the pick up problem with the wipers or whatever that gets the power from the wheels to the decoder?
Thanks again,
Richard
First thing to do is a decoder reset. Cycle the track power for a complete reset.
I just did a MRC 1629 review. Not the best decoder. One link brought me back here. They have issues.
Also, this loco does experience pickup issues which might have contributed to this issue.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
Purchased a used Bachmann 2-8-0 equipped with a MRC 1629 decoder last Spring. Ran it a little when it came, but summer put modeling on the back burner. Had't gotten it out until recently, and it's not running quite right.
It powered up, sounds about what I was expecting, whistle and bell sounded properly. Started moving down the track, went about 3', stopped for a few seconds, then went another 3'-4'. Did this maybe four or five times, then nothing, no light, no sound, no move.
Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank you,
