Thanks Randy,

We're modifying the house right now for a 14' 6" by 54' layout and I want to automate the trains so they run from 1 staging yard to a second staging yard... then back to the first staging yard - over and over. Althhough the layout would be dual mainline (doubled back over itself as a double ended dogbone with the appearance of 4 track main) I still would only have 1 train running at a time so the 5 amp system with a booster or 2 for distance should be fine. Hope This helps!

Blessings!

Unless you are talking just a small display layout, you can run trains witht he PH Pro just fine, but you will need something else to handle the block detection and signal drivers, the cab bus just doesn't handle all that much extra. A Digitrax Loconet or the Chubb CMRI system are ones that are used. On the software side, JMRI and RR&Co do automation - based on my expereience, while RR&Co is not a cheap program, it is FAR easier to set up and get reliable automation than JMRI. As inm a non-computer lawyer friend of mine managed to automate part of his layout all on his own using RR&Co.

I know of no books on the subject. Instead, lots of google searches are your friend here, see how others have done it.

No books that I know of and the automation aspect is continually evolving, being added to, modified, etc. Books can be outdated quite fast.Enjoy.
