Problem solved!  I accidentally put the locomotive in standby mode.  Being new to DCC I didn't know that existed.  Two quick presses if F6 and I was back in business.

I have a lot to learn about DCC.  However that's part of the fun.

How do you know that the address was re-set back to 3?  At the club I have many times checked locos that supposedly wouldn't run when "reset" and then found that the address was some odd four digit number that could not easily be explained.

I would suggest that you ditch JMRI for the moment and reset the loco on a programming track.  Using JMRI at this point just introduces another link in a chain that could be broken.

Checking the wire connector was a good idea, I should have thought about that.  However, I checked it tonight and no luck.  I also tried running the locomotive on a DC powered track.  Sound only, no movement.

Just about every case of this, with BLI engines typically, is related to the tether.  That horrible little plug works its way out of its socket under the cab and you will typically get resets if you want 'em, until the missus calls you for dinner, but no amount of movement.  The sounds work fine as well...just no movement at all.  Pick up the loco and tender, unhook the tender from its pin, lay them on their sides, and use something harder than a dry spaghetti noodle to press that plug further, snugly, into its receptacle. It has to be squarely in there, too, so don't expect a press on one end of the plug to work.  Better than a wooden dowel is a pair of needle-nosed pliers, the kind with the bent tines.  Be careful, though, not to break the wires going into the back of the tether!

If there is no other fault, say a broken solder or a broken wire, or a faulty decoder, that bit of remedy should have your locomotive working for you once again.

I am new to DCC and I attempted to change the individual sound levels using JMRI.  Everything was going great until I changed the sound levels a third time.  The sound changes took effect but the engine will not move.  I tried using the rest function in JMRI but the engine still wont move.  The sound went back to factory and the address changed back to 3.

Any help getting this engine moving again would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Chris
