I have a Scale trains turbine that I would like to adjust only the volume on the Diesel engine. This is the only Loksound equipped loco I have so I'm not familiar with this brand. I use Decoder Pro, but my laptop decided decided it would take early retirement. What I need to know is what the cv for the diesel volume is and the range of values. I've looked at the online manual, but before I print out an 88 page manual that makes no sense to me, I thought I would try here.
Sorry if I can't answer your specific questions. The LokSound Select decoders manual if you have or download it would likely show CV63 as master volume (affecting all sounds) with a range of 0-192 and default value 180. The diesel CV is noted as 259 with default of 99 but range not noted. The horn is CV 275 with default of 128, bell CV 283 and default 128. NOTE: the CVs >255 are indexed CVs so you MUST first set index CV32 = 1 before setting CVs 259, 275, 283.
Now, a huge BUT! But, your locos with factory setup decoders may not follow the nominal CV assignments for many CVs. The easiest way to see the actual setup for a given sound file (even without a LokProgrammer that lets you reload different sound files) is to download the LokProgrammer software (which can be run w/o the LokProgrammer), download the sound file for your specific loco and double click the file to start the software. Then (finally) you can see how the particular sound file is set up (CVs for certain sounds, initial setting and range, etc). But that's pretty involved AND you need a PC to do it.
I see the ESU has 4 files for the Big Blow, one each for the A and B unit, plus a variation on each depending on whether the rivet counter or museum quality version:

Meanwhile, you could try the CVs noted above if no one else advises on better specifics. Or call LokSound in PA with your specific questions.
EDIT: I see that if you click the "functions" link on the projects webpage above, there is info on the "hostler motor" CV259 (default 83) and turbine sound CVs (plural). F8 is the usual sound startup / mute button so the hostler motor in the A unit likely works as above. And the B unit turbine has two CVs (267 & 323), which I don't understand but maybe playing with them will clarify what they do. Remember to ensure setting index CV32 = 1 before setting sound CVs >255.

Assume you have Rivet Counter brand . It is factory equipped with LokSound Select decoder.
CV 63 - Master volume control, valid CV range 0 – 192. Default is 180
See chapter 5.2.7.6. in LokSound Select, User Manual for Diesel & Steam Decoders Third edition, May 2012 for details.

I have the MQ or museum quality.
Paul, looks like hostler motor CV259, default 83, might be what I'm looking for. I think the 2 CV's for the B unit might be one for the turbine sound and also, the Museum quality has a flange squeal/ frog clank feature. I'm really not trying to make the diesel sound like an EMD645. I just need a little more volume since I'm competing with a dehumidifier and the furnace fan.
If the default value for the hostler is 83, I'm only looking to increase it to maybe 88?
Remember people, this model has TWO motors - the YUP Turbines had a regualr diesel prime mover for hostling becuase the turbine was just too fuel hungry for light loads, and the decoders have both sounds in them - on initial startup, just the diesel starts, and then you cna start the turbine. Check out the video showing it in operation - linked in the "Popular on Modelrailroader.coom" box ont he right. So the master volume is not what needs adjusting here. The manual that came with the loco should have the volume level CVs, as this is a custom project done for them.

Just adjust sound volumes using program on the main, not on program track. Set CV32 = 1 first, then change desired sound CV and you will hear the volume change instantly.
Manual only has CV's for changing bell and horn. Manual is online at Scale Trains. I am not interested in changing the overall volume, only the diesel sound.
At the Scale Trains manual I see horn and bell info regarding "selection" using CV48. It's also described on the ESU site above if you expand the CV48 paragraph. This is not aboyt volume, rather, the preferred horn or bell. Though not described except in the ESU manuals (Select or V4.0), CV48 is the means to select 4 items where alternates are loaded into the sound file. They are "motor" sound (if alternates are provided), horn selection, bell selection and brake squeal selection (if alternates are provided). In your case, CV48 default = 79, meaning that (default) motor sound component = 0, correct horn sound component = 15, correct bell sound component = 64, and default brake squeal component = 0, for 79 total that goes in CV48. Since the correct horn and bell are the default, changing CV48 is unnecessary.
Again, setting the volumes for master volume, motor, turbine, horn, bell and misc sounds would be as described above. And it might be necessary to use the LokProgrammer software and open the A and B unit files to see all the sound options, ranges (because the Scale Trains manual, ESU file descriptions (above) and even the ESU manuals unfortunately do not offer all the specifics of interest).
Thanks Paul. I see how this works on the CV48=79. I think for what I'm trying to accomplish I might be getting in "over my boots". I just don't know enough about LokSound and programming to make an intelligent decision.
