Hi Scott,

I currently have 4 TCS WOW 101 decoders in various equipment; 2 Steam and 2 Diesel. I do all of my programming in JMRI Decoder Pro as well. Marty is correct. Hit the Sound tab. You will see the prime mover and whistle selection on the left. Bottom right there will be check boxes for the mute on start up option as well as a mute light mode/sound mode/rotate whistle audible. Check to see if you have the latest version of JMRI as earlier versions did not have the extensive breakdown of the TCS WOW's.

Scott,

I have installed several motherboards and 21 pin decoders. According to the TCS website they recommend using the TCS or ESU (Loksound) 21 pin decoders. However, I have used 21 pin econami's also with no noticeable difference in operation, lights or sounds. The difference is that the TCS board is what is known as the NEM standard and the eco is using the NMRA standard. My understanding is that the differences only come into play if you have more than four lighting functions. Bottom line is that the eco will also work with the motherboards. You will need to spread the pins on the motherboard to get a good tight fit because the eco has components on the bottom that prevent it from sitting flush on the motherboard.

With regard to the other question, I think it is the sound pane on the JMRI that has the answer. I am not near my work station so I am going from memory but on the sound pane on the far right side there is a column of boxes for different sounds including the start, reverse and stop signals. Also in that column is a "mute on start up" box. You can check that box and get the result you want. When starting the prime mover you can select the loco then execute the start sequence using F12. If you are in sound mode or have selected dual mode then it should  start if it does not try pushing F8 to unmute. I think you can also get the result you want by putting a number larger than zero in the shut off delay function but I have not tried that option.

tcs wow 21

Is anyone out there familiar with tcs decoders such as the wow 121 diesel?  I was curious as to if their was a way to change a cv to not start the engine till it is given a command or an address.  I know with digitrax and esu decoders that you can, but havnt found a place in my jmri that i can change that option for the wow 121.  Also i really like the tcs motherboards with built in keep alives.  Will any 21 pin decoder work on those motherboards or does it have to be tcs?  Thanks

Scott
