Sorry for not providing enough information on the decoder. It is the TSU-AT1000 board for the Genset diesel. Sorry about that! Jim
MisterBeasley If the wires are not color coded, the top of the capacitor is marked +.
I'm no electronics expert but it has been my experience with electrolytic capacitors that, usually, the + on top of the capacitor is to allow the case to "vent" when the cap ruptures.
See photos on this page:

The minus side is marked on the plastic shrink wrap and one leg will be shorter to identify the minus side of a radial cap.

That cap is only for sound stay alive.
Along with this, if you decide to do with a stay alive module, do not connect it to that point. That module gets connected to the ouput of the full wave bridge rectifier.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.

Be aware that the capacitor is an electrolytic type. It has polarity, + and -, and must be connected correctly. If it's got color coded wires like the one in the picture, red will be the positive lead. If the wires are not color coded, the top of the capacitor is marked +.

chessiecat Trying to install one in an Atlas Genset. One wire from the capaciter is soldered to the board but for the life of me I cannot remember where the other wire goes. It does not show the capaciter in the wiring diagram and I am stuck. Thanks for any help you can give me. Jim

I just noticed you do not tell us which style decoder. SoundTraxx makes a variety of sound decoders. I assumed the AT-1000 type.
Chessiecat,
maybe here you can find some valuable info:

Better picture. As a help. Found this with Google and clicked on Images which showed many decoders. It is labeled Atlas Genset on the page I found the picture.
I am assume you are installing this decoder. Might be different if it is a a decoder made specifically for Atlas but logically the two points should be next to each other.
In the Tsunami quick start guide on page 7 they indicate wiring to an extra pair of the red and black wires. These should come out the opposite end of the decoder on newer production, but not sure they were present on older versions.

Here's the install instructions for the CurrentKeeper on the -1000 and -750. Depending on what decoder you have, one or the other should give you a clue about the capacitor by itself, although a call to Durango should settle things.

I have some SoundTraxx AT-1000 decoders. Both wires connect next to each other on the PC board. Tiny spot to solder them to. Fine point soldering pencil needed.

I have had to contact SoundTraxx via e-mail and I found them very responsive.
