Prime Strato Lite Beacon
Posted by tin can on Monday, February 22, 2016 11:41 AM

I was watching some video of Santa Fe engines in the mid 80's; when they still had their beacons.  The beacon was distinctive in that it was made up of four bulbs that fired in a circular pattern.

Has anyone built something similar in HO?  Is it possible to use four 0402 smd leds to simulate the bulbs in the beacon?  Is there a decoder that has the lighting effects capability to pull that off?

Any other options?  Not getting responses from emails sent to the address on his facebook page.

If he posted an email directly on the Facebook page, it's probably swamped with spam by now. I'd contact him through Facebook, or maybe by putting a comment in the YouTube video.

Ngineering sells a light effect module that captures the look of a rotaing beacon.  According to their description, item N8042C is for 4 LEDs that simulate the effect you want.  These modules don't come with LEDs so the modules are not 100% rtr.  I have one of the modules for the 3 LEDs but haven't installed it yet.

Look at "rotating beacon simulators"

Thanks for all the replies.  I had not see the Ngineering website; there seems to be several interesting lighting options there.

Looks like he posted an update on March 6th:

Quick update with everyone!

Been busy with school and work the past few months and I do apologize for the inconvenience.

RB-1 update: I am out of stock. When I will build more is undetermined at this time.

SL-1 (Amtrak Style) update: I'm wrapping up the dual white Amtrak style SL-1's this month, hopping to have the first batch ready to go by the end of March. I should have a batch of 20, so quantities will be limited until I get things leveled out.

The SL-1 for RCL's are not ready yet, when they will be is still undetermined at this time.

Thank you everyone for your patience.

~Aaron.

Thanks, Roberto...

I guess I'll look into the ngineering option.  They do offer some practical advice, and seem to have all the stuff needed to build your own...

Heh.  I think I know who you'll be calling on for the fine soldering work. Wink
