Locomotive Disassembly
Posted by Sam Steele on Thursday, February 4, 2016 10:25 PM

I recently purchased an Alco S2 Switcher in N scale made by Atlas. It was not DCC equipped so I purchased a decoder for it. The only problem is that for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the cab off! Maybe I just need to be a little more ham-fisted, but as much as that may work when fixing my Chevy Pickup, somehow I doubt it will help with anything made in N scale.

Can anybody give me a tip on this one?

Here are the diagrams and instructions for body removal for the HO scale version:

There doesn't seem to be one for the N scale locomotive.

Maybe it will help, maybe not.

Thanks Dave.

The instructions were not exact, but they were close enough. On the N scale, the cab and the hood are one piece. The tip on the HO instructions about using a hobby knife to lever the cab sides away from the tabs worked like a charm.

Decoder is installed and the switcher is operational.

Thanks alot.
