You need to be more specific. Which Proto are you asking about? Sound or not? There are a lot of options out there. All of the decoder manufacturers make board replacement decoders.

Hi Thomas.

ESU makes a sound replacement board, LokSound Select Direct.  These decoders can be programmed with sound files available on the ESU web-site using the Lok Programmer or, usually, the shop purchased from can program the desired sound for you if you do not own the Lok Programmer.  Make certain that the motor is isolated from the frame before any decoder install.

All the best.

What model is it? Most of the P2K engines have a 8 pin socket. Most of the P1K engines need to have a few solder patterns cut, and wires soldered to the pads. Myself, I prefer to remove the old light board and solder the wires to a 'wired' decoder. Jim
