I pushed the lens out and slipped in 3mm LEDs in all of my PA-1s.  If you want the LED headlight on in reverse use a full wave bridge diode.

Thanks Hobo, I'll give it a try

IT has an incandescent bulb now which does work ( checked with body off of chassis) but it doesn't seem to shine through the lens.

Install an LED or incandescent bulb directly behind the lens, with some shrink tubing to keep the light from bleeding out of any openings.

Athearn PA-1 HO diesel locomotive headlamp
Posted by TheK4Kid on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 6:18 PM

I recently purchased an Athearn  HO scale PA-1 diesel locomotive 4 unit set, two units powered, and two unpowered units.

The power unit has a headlmap  that works when I have the body off the unit, but when I put the body back on the PA1 unit I cannot see the headlamp through the lens.

Any suggestions?  What about using an LEDlamp instead of the incandescent bulb?
