First I know there decoders are well, lacking in control CV's. I only had one of them till yesterday, it is a PRR GP 20 I believe, good running little engine. Yesterday I came across a B&O GP 30 #6936 and a B&O GP 7 #6414 for $52.00 with tax for the pair so I jumped on them.
When I looked on line for CV's vaules I found 2 manuals, one has says for Decoders with EMF. Other one say's nothing about EMF. I use the Digitrax PR3 to ID the decoders, but I had to pick if it was a 2 function or 4 fuction decoder, how would I find out which decoder the engine came with and if it has EMF?
On speed matching the two engines. Only motor controls I saw was CV 2 starting voltage and CV 5 Max Voltage. I think I should be able to get them close with these's CV's. What do you folks think
I know, I know, replaces the decoders. At this point I just want to enjoy them till I start cutting and soldering.
Thanks for the coming answers, Ken

IIRC, the decoder itself has some sort of part number on it. Look it over and then Google the P# if you find it.
The number of outputs can be determined by how many leads the decoder has.
BTW, you get what you pay for with these in my experience. They cost nothing over and above the model cost, so essentially free -- don't expect much, but the irritations of limited adjustability will add up to frustration. They'll hold you over until good replacements arrive, but that's about it.
You may gain some limited improvement by snipping off the orange (the ones I've seen on 70-yonners are orange, but may be different on these) capacitors on the motor. They're required in Europe, but seem to make the B-mann decoder a bit fussier than it already is. They're not needed and easy to eliminate, so that's one way to improve performance that's low hanging fruit while you have the shell and/or fuel tank off looking at the decoder.
