Athearn genesis SD4-2 w/ sound DCC issue
Posted by s_phoenix on Saturday, December 26, 2015 11:27 PM

Hello,

I put away my train layout about 2 years ago, do to moving and other events. I was only able to get a small double loop up and working under my Christmas tree this year.  I was able to get 2 new Bachmann red box engines running with out a problem.  I'm using a Digitrax DB-150 w/ a DT400R paddle.

But I put on my Athearn Genesis with sound and lights setup it wont work.  It started out being a Zombie engine that just wanted to go around the track at a slow speed and was not controllable.  After resetting the CV's to factory defaults it stopped.  But will not move at all. I've tried using CV8 ->8, CV30->2, CV125->1.

Nothing has worked.  The engine ran fine and was speed matched to my other 3 SD45-2's.  All ran well together and didnt give me a problem.

Any idea's would be helpfull.  Other than replace it or sending it to someone for safe keeping.

If you've tried a reset and to make sure you're doing DCC only (changing bit 4 of CV 29), then you'll have to replace the decoder. Are you using address of 3 when you reset the decoder?
