I heard of some people having issues with TSC burning out or melting some plastic on their engines. I will probably stay clear of them. I have a Digitrax Zephyr controller that  I just picked up, prob stick with that brand.

In this old thread, David Bedard recommended the Digitrax DZ123PS decoder for the BLI RSD-15.

I have used the DZ125PS and is quite small and works very well also. Cheap enough. I believe it has been superseded.

We have to assume you have run this loco with a DC power pack as you said it is DC loco. How does it run?

UPNorth906

its 2402, red paint sheme

The color scheme and number should make no difference. Open it up and compare to the link I provided. As I said, you are going to have to open it up anyway.

I have yet to see any links in DCC forums about the TCS decoders running too hot. A decoder running to hot would be because a motor that requires more current than the decoder is made for, i.e. incorrect install.

This is you loco. I suspect from a private sale if no box. This is suppose to be the easiest

http://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Content/Installation_Pictures/HO_Scale/Broadway_Limited/RSD_15/RSD%2015.html

If new to DCC, DCC ready seems to be the motor contacts isolated from the pickups. DC locos the contacts connect right to the two motor leads.

For connections, could be a 8 pin NMRA socket, a JST 9 pin socket or a PC board with contacts to solder the decoder wires like a couple small HO Bachmann diesels I have.

Decoders come in many different styles.

This one?

http://www.broadway-limited.com/bli-2430alcorsd-15lsandi2404maroonschemelownoseparagon2sounddcdccho-1.aspx

Is there something wrong with the decoder/sound already installed in it?

You may only need to reset the decoder if it is not functioning. Although there could be other problems.

Have you tried to run the engine on DC power?

Good Luck, Ed

Sorry, I am very new to DCC so I do not know what info is essential. All I know is that its a LS&I RSD-15 diesel. It did not come with a box so I don't have anymore info

That could be either a Paragon or a Blueline. BLI made both in DCC Ready.

What is the number on the loco?

Please take time to look through the TCS link I provided a short time ago. Your loco is there and it looks like plug and play. Store the TCS link in Favorites. When someone post ;links for you, look through them and store the links.

Open up your model and see it it looks the same. You are going to have to open it up anyway.

I did a PCM made by BLI some years ago. Needed hard wiring using a SoundTraxx lightboard type decoder for a F7 A/B set.

Steamers get the decoder and speaker in the tender though a few put sugar cube speakers in the smoke box where the sound really comes from, out the stack.

Some point the speaker up though the fan housings on diesels instead of firing down though the trucks like my F3 and F7.

Some like marker lights.

A basic non sound decoder will only need seven wires. More wires for other options.

Is yours DCC ready? If needed, get a Photo Bucket accound and post pictures here. It can make things much clearer.

Which engine? It must be an early run Precision Craft Models "DCC Ready" engine unless you are referring to a "Blue-Line" series which has sound but no motor decoder?

Again, which engine (do you have the PCM or BLI model number?) and what decoder do you want to use? Sound?

Nearly (all?) of the Broadway/PCM engines were designed for sound.

Need... More... Input...

As I said before, “exactly which engine”? Steam or diesel? There will be differences. Sound or non sound? Many times this question will pop up after.

TCS has a few installs for some non sound BLI. Only one for sound.

http://www.tcsdcc.com/

Question that begs asking. How much DCC experince do you have? Can make a difference.

SoundTraxx has some for BLI but all sound. They do sell a good non sound decoder.
