Indeed, looks like all the wires and shrink wrap come to the top of the cab windows. The SW1 hood only extends to the bottom of the cab windows.

Hi darrel480:

I get my sugar cube speakers from Digi-Key. This is just one example. There are others that are slightly bigger:

You may be able to get them for a bit less on eBay but watch out for the shipping costs.

Streamlined Backshop has some really good information on sugar cube speakers. There are three sections on their website that are worth reading:

http://www.sbs4dcc.com/sugarcubespeakers.html

http://www.sbs4dcc.com/tutorialstipstricks/sugarcubespeakernotes.html

http://www.sbs4dcc.com/tutorialstipstricks/wiringmultispeakers.html

I have installed several. They work great! They are no more difficult to install than any other speaker. You must use a speaker enclosure or the sound will be terrible. The enclosure does not have to be very big and you can easily make your own from .040" styrene. Make sure they are air tight.

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Cell phone speakers can be purchased as surplus from many electronic suppliers, or new from places like Mouser and DigiKey. Dimensions are given in their online catalogs.

Streamlined Backshop has a line of sugar cube speakers with enclosures that would also fit this small loco.

David,

I believe Darryl is referring to the one posted in the User Video section:

http://mrr.trains.com/videos/user-videos/2015/11/video-soundtraxx-econami-dcc-decoder-in-an-arnold-n-scale-sw1-switcher

Darryl, why not just post your questions directly for Kris in the comment section at the link above.  Perhaps he'll send you a step-by-step on how he did the install.  Worth a try...

Econami 100 Sound Decoder in a Nscale Arnold SW1

I saw a video of an N Arnold SW1 that had a new Econami 100 decoder installed in it using a cell phone speaker.  Has anyone ever used a cell phone speaker?  The sound was very good.  What kind of cell phone speaker?  I wish Model Railroader would do an article on how to do this install. Anyone know how to get intructions to do this?  Sounds like a difficult install with a small amount of space.
