Yes I cycle the power on and off but when I program a 0 into CV 3 &4 it has no effect.

OK.  Do you do this (cycle power) before trying to run the loco?  The experience I've had is that if you program these values (even using program on the main) and immediately run the engine, the programmed values are there.  Then, after cycling power, they reset to factory.  Still haven't found a fix, other than dropping more money on a different decoder.  BLI basically agreed the issue was there and would try to keep that problem out of Paragon 3 decoders.  The said if they found a fix, they would contact me.  That was in May.

If you don't have a read feature, you must not have set up a programming track.

No that was a QSI NW2. I reset my DB 150 then reset the decoder back to factory and it finaly took and reset. After going back to address 3 it woke up.

Yes I cycle the power on and off but when I program a 0 into CV 3 &4 it has no effect. I can turn the throttle all the way up and instead of taking off like a bat outta hell it will slowly accelerate like CV 3&4 are set at 25. I don't have the read feature on my set but when CV's are programmed .I will get a good on my throttle. Any suggestions?

My guess is that, those CVs being programmable between 0 and 255, there will not be noticeable difference between the factory value of 5 and any other inferior value.

If you want a faster starting speed I would rather suggest to increase  value in CV2 instead of playing with CVs 3 and 4.

Is it the same NW2 that didn't started few days ago?

Paragon 2 decoders sure seem to have their share of problems.

They sure do.

Are you cycling power after programming before trying to run the locomotive?  I have had issues with CV's 3 & 4 as well.  Mine take new values, but as soon as I power down the layout, they go back to factory defaults.  BLI was less than helpful on a fix, so I'm certainly curious to hear what you've got going on exactly.

Paragon 2 decoders sure seem to have their share of problems.

When you say that you "can't change CV's 3 and 4", do you mean that the changes have no effect, or do you literally mean that you cannot program values in those two CVs?  Have you checked to verify that the values you programmed are, in fact, the values stored in those two CVs?

Setting CV's in a Paragon 2 decoder
Posted by strider on Monday, November 9, 2015 8:08 PM

Hey everyone, I have a quick question for those that have the BLI Paragon 2 decoders. I have a NW2 with the Paragon 2 decoder and can't change CV's 3 and 4. The decoder respones to changes with other CV's but I can't change 3 and 4.  The engine responds very slow to the throttle. I tried dropping both CV's to 0 but there's no change in throttle response. I've done this in both PG and PO modes with no results. I have other NW 2's with the old QSI decoders and haven't had any problems programing them. I have a Digitrax system. Any help would be appreciated.
