Clean track and wheels....
Sound decoders are much more picky about dirty track and wheels than non-sound decoders.
For track cleaning I have a "work train" with a couple track cleaning cars, when really bad, the WS "Tidy-Track" I have works really good. (A rag with your preferred cleaner is just as good, I only have the Tidy-Track cleaner for one section that is difficult to reach into, the Tidy-Track extends reach much thinner than my arm does...)
(Speaking of cleaner, what do you use? This is important for the next step...)
Whel cleaning is easy, take a paper towel, drape across rails, wet with preferred cleaner, (careful that your preferred cleaner is not strong enough that it melts your track ties and any details on the locomotive... and do not use goo-gone!), than take locomotive, place one truck over the towel, other truck on clean rails, turn up the throttle while holding the loco so it can not move, and slide the spinning wheels across the wet towel until no more black stuff comes off.
If this does not solve the issue entirely, check the bolsters and bearings, sometimes dust and crud can get inside there as well, making for poor electrical contact.
Once all of these steps are followed, you should have no issues until it is time for the next cleaning.
If, after the thorough cleaning of both track and wheels/bearings, you are still having issues, you have a wiring issue with either locomotive or track work.
(Really would be helpful to know more details, is it always stalling in the same place? Where? What is the track work? Is it a straightaway, curve, or turnout? Is it at a rail joint? Do any other units do this, or just this one? What scale? What locomotive model? At what speed? Does speed matter? Does direction matter? When stalling, does the sound cut out entirely along with motor, or just one or the other? Full stall or just a momentary loss? Not a lot of information to go on here, so answered as best as I could with the information available.)
