I have seen videos of this on youtube but the control cab cars were Metrolink and used tsunami sound. It was cool.

This is pretty standard for any 6 function decoder. You need 1 for the headlight, 2 for the ditch lights, and 2 for the strobes if they are alternating. Pick a brand, and you cna use JMRI to figure out what CV settings you need. Most brands give a ditch light example in their instructions, so you can use that to take care of the ditch lights.

Don't they also have red markers that come on when the cab car or power unit is trailing in the push-oull? You're still goo,d use the read light function for that, and keep the headlights directional. WHen going forward, the white headlight is on, when going reverse, the red markers are on.

 Not difficult at all.

Chicago Metra Loco/Cab Car Lighting Effects With DCC?
Posted by JOHN BRUCE III on Sunday, October 11, 2015 11:59 AM

I notice that Chicago Metra locos and cab cars have headlights, flashing ditchlights, and an additional strobe. Has anyone come up with a way to install and program these effects in DCC in HO or N? Has anyone done this for a cab car with a Soundtraxx SoundCar decoder?
