Hi again,

Got it done.  Turns out the A was Digitrax, the B Soundtrax.

Thanks all!

What Arjay said. first determine what decoder is present. This table contains a handy list of reset values for most decoders: http://tonystrains.com/how-to-rescue-a-faulty-decoder/

EDIT: Forgot to mention: read CV8 for the mfgr ID and then proceed with the reset.

The exact procedure is going to depend on what brand of decoder is installed.  I know that for Digitrax decoders, setting CV08 = 08 will perform the reset.  Other brands differ in which CV and what number to enter.

How to reset to "factory" with Digitrax?
Posted by mobilman44 on Sunday, October 4, 2015 11:57 AM

Hi, I picked up a nice set of Stewart FTs - A powered, B powered w/sound.  The previous owner changed (he said) a number of CVs and I would like to reset to the factory settings.   I can find reference to this in my manuals, but no "how to" instructions.   Can anyone help me out?

Oh, I'm using the Digitrax Zephyr on the workbench, but if need be I can do it on the layout using the Super Chief.

Thank you!

ENJOY  !
