First Sound Install Hallmark MKT E7's
Posted by blabride on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 7:28 AM

Hello,

I am researching my first brass install in a Hallmark Tx Special set I was very lucky to find at a local train show this last Saturday. They seem to be fairly easy to do unlike some of the older brass as this was one of Mrs Hall's best imports. These have a mashima can motor held away from the frame with plastic braces. There are two wires from one motor post attached to one side of the trucks wipers. The other motor post is attached to the truck screw posts. Picking up power from the other side of the trucks?

My question is would this be like any other dcc hook up? I am assuming the trucks sides would have to be insulated between the right side and left as the loco runs great on dc? So I am assuming I can use maybe even the new WOW board and decoder set up for athearn or the typical Soundtraxx TSU GN1000 and LEDS. Both of these could be mounted easily without taking up much room with double sided tape on top of the motor.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

SB

I have disconnected the wires from the motor and while in DC with the loco on the track, at 5 volts at the track i get 5 volts at the truck bolster and the wire coming from the track pickup wire, at the same time I get nothing at the motor posts, I also get no reading from the frame with either wire. Does this mean the the motor is isolated.

Yes I am a beginner with brass. I have done quite a few plastic with no problems.  Thanks again for the help.
