I have done what you propose. Skagitrailbird is right why try it when you can return them for what you need.
You used the phrase "potentially try to return" the decoders. Is there any reason to think that you could not return them? Unless that is the case I would return them for exchange of those with clips. Why take the chance that you would botch the job (no offense intended) and void a warranty.
Yes, I know TCS had a goof proof warranty but why go through the aggrevation?
Hi folks. First post here and new to DCC. I have four new Kato locos I'm installing decoders in. 2 SD-70ace's and 2 ES 44 GEVO's. The above referenced decoders are essentially the same with the difference being that the NC on the one stands for "no clips". These use the existing light board clips that just pop on. The other decoder comes with clips soldered on. I found this out after buying four of the NC models. So to me it looks like all you would have to do is de-solder the clips on the light boards from the es 44 and assuming the solder cleans up ok, they should pop on the NC decoders And work fine. Visually everything seems to line up ok. Or I could potentially try to return 2 of the NC models in favor of the others. It just seems like it would be an easy fix. Any reason not to try it????
Thanks!
