Running Multiple Sugarcube Speakers at 4 Versus 8 Ohms (Skip This, I Made A Math Error)
Posted by peahrens on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 10:28 PM

I've been installing sugarcube speakers in several HO diesel hood units lately and am prepping some others.

EDIT: I am changing the text as I made a dramatic math error.  I explained that I had used four 8-ohm speakers to get 8 ohm impedance for some LokSound Select installs.  I was interested in how to get four speakers to net as 4 ohm speakers, and mistakenly thought I could get that configured.  So my question is moot about 4-speaker configuration to attain 4 ohms, unless 4 ohm sugarcubes were available.  Sorry for the big error.

Hi Paul:

peahrens
But I overlooked that I could wire each duo in parallel to yield 2 ohms, then the duos in series, to get a net of 4 ohms.

I'm not sure how you calculated that two 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel would result in 2 ohms of impedance. My (admittedly limited) understanding is that such an arrangement would result in 4 ohms impedance.

Maybe I don't understand the speaker arrangement that you are suggesting.

Dave, thanks.  You pointed out a math error that made my question moot.  I figured that out simultaneously and got out of bed to correct the post.  Sorry for anyone's wasted time!
