Since rapido currently is out of their lighting kit, who makes a comparable set, as in ease of installation and battery powered? I'm doing HO scale 70' IHC heavyweights. Would prefer one that does not require using soldering.

Miniatronics has a 7 LED kit (100-ICL-01) that is designed to use rail power...but you can always hook it to a battery/ies....I'm planning to use one for lighting an old Athearn B&M passenger car; a couple of 3 volt watch batteries should work fine....Good luck!

LION makes his own from LEDs and Parts. Him cannot afford to buy stuff like that.
LION has over 50 passenger cars running on the layout of him. Batteries are nice, but maintenance, and turning them on and off is a major pita.
LION uses draw bars between cars, so only one battery is needed to light six car sets, but... still ditzing with on-off switches is still a pita, when you consider that these consists are spread over 14 miles of track, much of it in tunnels.
LION has a plan, but him will not tell ewe of it until him has tried it ans knows that it will wrok.
