Fried decoder (12 yrs old)
Posted by softail86mark on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 3:57 AM

I think I fried a QSI decoder in my 12 year old BLI NW-2. I derailed in a yard that isn't quite finished with people working on stuff. Is there a way to change out the decoder to something of a newer vintage? The board has the QSI chip (literally a chip, like an Intel looking thing) and I heard there's an upgrade for it's firmware. Does anyone know if the QSI chip is also the motor control? Or is the motor control decoder seperate? Or, is there a way to just swap the whole thing out? Any info on this would be helpful. And, no, I haven't contacted BLI yet, it just happened tonight on club night.

Thanks folks.

I'd swap the whole decoder out for a Loksound with the 567-12 cylinder file. It will run and sound much better !

Well thanks Brother E.

I used a little olive oil and some challots, but yeah, same idea...
