DCC N SCALE DECODERS
Posted by the old train man on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 11:29 PM

Can somebody tell me if the correct cv for controlling the momentum and brakes in n scale engines is cv 3 and 4 for most engines, [atlas, bachmann, kato etc.]

All of the decoders I have installed in my N gauge locomotives are Digitrax and support CV's 3 and 4. There may be other decoders by other manufacturers that do no have an adjustment for CV's 3 and 4.

CVs 3 and 4 are the NMRA standard for acceleration momentum and deceleration momentum. They will be the same CVs on any decoder, however at time the value will vary because some calculate differently than others - IE CV3=20 might be a reasonable value in one decoder but in a different decoder this makes it take 5 minutes to get to speed.
