Thanks for the info. I found out my engine still has 6 months left on warranty so I sent it back for repair. Will keep your advice in mind in the future, thanks. May God Bless.

My last Bachmann steamer came with the wires plugged into the engine as well as a recommendation that they not be unplugged unless necessary

Also for $25 Bachmann will replace and install the wire connection.

Once you have a good connection a small dab of Amazing Goop will act as a strain relief.  Goop remains slightly flexible, if you put taper on the dab the wire won’t break at the Goop.  Use it sparingly, a little bit goes a long way.  I’ve used it for years without any problems.

If you do have a Bachmann loco, here is the website.

A suggestion in the future, mention the brand and model of loco you have.

I don't know of anyone who has soldered the broken wires into the connector.

A firm connection is necessary. The slightest interruption will cause the decoder to hiccup.

I have a 0n30 steamer and the wires broke between the engine and coal car. They broke off inside the connector. My question is this, can I use a low heat glue gun to glue outside wires to the connector without causing problems? The glue would relieve pressure on the wires when pulled.

I have seen this question a few times before. I doubt you will get a firm connection.

If this is a Bachmann loco, order the wires with connectors from Bachmann. The Bachmann website list the parts and there is a On30 forum also with company reps.

Adjust the wires carefully when you plug in the connectors for proper slack.

I did that for a HO steamer.

You just have to be carefull handling the loco.
