Speaker Wiring
Posted by TheBAYline on Saturday, May 2, 2015 4:40 PM

Hi all,

I recently purchased an ESU Select w/8-pin connector for my Proto2000 Atlantic Coast Line GP7, as well as a Zimo speaker. I am just wondering what the three other wires were on the ESU Select that are bare, aside from the 8 going to the pin connection. I assumed that two were for the speaker leads, but it looked like there was a third (the decoder is still coming in the mail). Any help on what this third wire is? This is my first sound decoder ever, so any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

What color are they? If there is a violet and green wire, those are for F1 and F2, not the speaker. Speaker wires would be brown, two of the same since with one speaker, polarity does not matter. The 8 pin connection only has room for white and yellow, F0 forward and F0 reverse, plus the blue common, along with the track pickups, red and black, and the motor drive, orange and grey.

A LokSound Select has two brown wires for the speaker, and a purple wire for any additional function such as a strobe light that are not connected to the 8-pin harness.

You need to go to the ESU USA web site and download the LokSound Select User Manual, especially if you don't have a LokProgrammer.

If you don't have a LokProgrammer, I hope the company you have ordered it from will program it for you, because the basic Select does not have any sound files loaded.

On the Loksound Select decoder, the red, black, orange, gray, blue, white, yellow and green are all on the 8-pin plug. Additional loose wires on the same end are the two brown speaker wires and the violet wire for AUX2. If it is one of the more recent releases, there will also be a light green and a dark red wire off the opposite end for AUX3 and AUX4. The Loksound Select is a 6 function decoder.
