My wife is in Tokyo this week after finishing a translation job (not that onerous, since it involved Disneyland, etc.) She's staying in a nice little apartment she found on AirBnB for $300/week, an incredible deal. The listing said they were near some great shopping and this pic seems to confirms it, one of those back alley places that reminds her of how the whole akihabara used to be.
Unfortunately, I suspect they (http://www.akiba-led.jp/) only ship to Japan, but I'm going to have my wife inquire in the morning. Will advise. She said the animation in the store signage was awesome.

WHile the storefront is ultramodern, it does bring back memories of Akihabara!
A lot of my present layout's electricals were bought in those cluttered little shops.

Apparently much of the old is gone, displaced by higher rent trendy stuff that often has little to do with electronics. But if you get off the main drag and follow the alley ways much if the old is still available, if just not as numerous. Her memories of it are of the mid-80s to early 90s, so past when you were likely shopping there, but probably was closer then to the way it was when you were there than it is to the modern version. Her dad was a bit of a stereo buff, so I think that's how she first ended up there.
