Bruce:
In case you are not familiar, to get to the 'program track' function, push the 'PROG/ESC' button four times.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Bruce,
To answer your question, you are not doing anything wrong. With the NCE system you do not get read back of CV's when programming on the main. As was said by a previous responder you need to use the program track mode to get read back.

You can not read back CV values while programming on the main. You have to use the program track. Even then the PowerPro will not read back some sound decoders.
I am trying to see the value of CV8 on a loco. I suspect it is an MDC but not sure/
I push the prog button on the hammerhead once to see "prog on the main" Press "enter". Screen says 1 for address, 2 for CV and 3 for something else.
I press 2 for CV and screen saye enter CV. I enter 8 and it wants me to enter a number not read the CV.
What am I doing wrong?
