I picked up a Big Boy from MTH with ProtoSound3. I have NCE ProCAB radio.
I have tried changing the engine address by Program on Main, Long Address, 4013, the MTH gives me 3 toots back on the horn.
But the address still wants to stay at default 3. Wont recognize 4013.
So I don't know what's up. I don't have problems with my other locos, although none of the others are MTH or ProtoSound3.
I tried to find out what the 3 horn toots mean, but I can't find documentation. I've read the manual off the MTH site, searched the ProtoSound3 for any kind of answer.
Does anyone know why I can't change the address over and what the horn toots mean?

Did you change the value in CV 29 to tell the decoder that you want to run on the long address? Go to program option 3, Configuration, and step through the choices. The last one should be to use a LONG address.
I did not try changing CV29.

OK, well after fiddling around with it some and doing some more research on DCS CV29, I set Bit 5 of CV29, which means setting CV29 to a value of 32.
The long address is working.
Me 2, MTH Triplex with NCE ProCab system. 1 giant PITA for a non DCC nerd such as I. Don't get me wrong, I love DCC nerds!!
I downloaded a pdf for this specific situation. 32 steps to program long address? Couldn't get past 6 or 7 steps before getting a display that didn't fit the directions. I finally figured out the best way for me to deal with "it". Triplex is now loco 3! :D All my other locos play well with me and I have ensured they are not short address 3.
The MTH manuals DO tell you how to activate the long address in their locos, which is programmed to the cab number by default. It is NOT the same as programming a standard decoder.

Like I said, starting on page 25 of the Big Boy manual is a list of all the DCC CVs supported, including speed matching, consisting, and function remapping. A few paragraphs below the table it step by step tells you how to set the address.
See also, menus built in to the DCC system are really awesome, except when they aren't. As in decoders that need some special handling. Another one you should NEVER EVER use on NCE is the decoder reset option on the programming menu - UNLESS AND ONLY IF you are resetting an NCE decoder. In general, instructions supplied with a locomotive or decoder generally take precedence over the system instructions, especially when it comes to programming.
