Need a little help with ditch light programming
Posted by hon30critter on Saturday, January 31, 2015 12:44 AM

Hi everyone:

I have a Loksound Select installed in a P2K GP7 with ditch lights. The ditch lights are wired to Aux. 3 on the left side of the locomotive and Aux. 4 on the right side. I want to use Ditch light 1 logic (flashes at crossings - stays on otherwise). I have been able to hook up both Aux. 3 and 4 to operate on Function 5, and I have managed to get them to flash alternately.

My problem is that I can't get the grade crossing logic to work. The ditch lights are flashing all the time when I push F5.

I have programmed the decoder as follows:

CV 32 = 2 then:

CV 362 = 48 (assigns Aux. 3 and 4 to F5)

CV 364 = 128 (supposedly grade crossing logic for F5)

CV 32 = 0 then:

CV 291 = 9 (Aux. 3 set to ditch light type 1)

CV 299 = 9 (Aux. 4 set to ditch light type 1)

CV 295 = 131 (Aux. 3 set to phase (1), Grade Crossing (2), and LED (128)

CV 303 = 130 (Aux. 4 set to opposite phase (0), Grade Crossing (2), and LED              (128)

The annoying thing is that I had the grade crossing logic working fine a couple of days ago but I had lost the bell. I managed to get the bell back, but now I've lost the ditch light grade crossing logic.Bang Head

I have reset the decoder and started over several times. At one point, just to add insult to injury, the number board lights and classification lights (both on F6) were flashing too. I fixed that.

So, any suggestions about how to get my ditch light grade crossing logic working again?

FYI, I am using an NCE Powercab, and I have also been through the whole exercise with my Lokprogrammer.

Thanks

Dave

Make sure your crossing logic is turned on for the horn function ....

CV31 = 16, CV32 = 2

----------------------

CV316 = 128

Hi Mark:

I just checked and all 3 CVs were already set as you suggested.

Thanks though.

Kinda hard to know what all you've done up to this point. Starting from scratch, this is what you need set from a new install ....

CV31 = 16, CV32 = 0

----------------------

CV291 =   9

CV295 = 130

CV299 =   9

CV303 = 131

CV31 = 16, CV32 = 2

----------------------

CV362 =  48

CV490 =   0

Hi again:

I had set all the values as you suggest with two small exceptions, namely CV 295 =131 and CV 303 = 130. I don't believe that the difference would affect the final outcome. It would simply change which of Aux. 3 or Aux. 4 were set to the opposite phase. I did change the values to what you suggested but it didn't solve the problem.

CV 490 was set to 32 so I changed it to 0 as you suggested, but that didn't solve the problem either. It just stopped F13 from turning on Aux. 4.

Believe me, I studied to manual for hours and tried several possible combinations and resets before I posted.

Do you have any other suggestions? Is it possible for the decoder to have lost only that one part of the program, i.e. grade crossing logic?

If I can't sort this out I will contact Loksound next week.

EDIT!!!   PROBLEM SOLVED!!

I had set CV 364 = 128 (CV 32 = 2) which, according to the manual, would assign "Railroad Crossing" logic to F5. Turns out CV 364 should be 0. I thought I had tried it at both values but I guess not. My bad.

Thanks again Mark. Your help is very much appreciated.
