Do your own due diligence.  Study up on both methods and determine for yourself which way to go, as only you can make this decision.

I switched to DCC about 10 years ago and would never go back.  The only catch is at 71, installing n-scale decoders is very difficult.  So if that's an issue, you can use services like Lin's Junction to install them for you.  Or buy DCC installed models.  Unfortunately $500 won't buy very many now-a-days.  - Bill

Three possible forums. Take time to look through all the forums at Trains.com, not just the first forum you see.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.

Advice - Coming back to N scale after 20 years - DCC or cab control?
Posted by Jack 64 Brown on Friday, January 30, 2015 8:47 PM

I am new to this forum and returning to N scale after 20 years. Back then I bought about $500 in locos.  A few were DCC ready, but none had the DCC modules that are now standard in locos.

I am starting a new layout, benchwork will be in a U format, operator will stand in one spot as trains wrap around.  For now I am planning to wire it in traditional cab control, two cabs.

What do you think?  Should I get modern and do DCC?
