Have a ATh Genesis GP-9 w/Tsunami DCC. During some recent testing the loco suddenly will not run on any throttle change from zero - and seems to overload the DCC system. I reset to factory settings using JMRI and no change. All sounds function, but as soon as the throttle is moved it promplty shuts down. At a loss here. Any ideas? Send it back to ATH for servicing or what?

When you did the factory reset using JMRI, did it take ? If the engine is overloading your DCC system, it should have done the same when trying to program it.
I've heard numerous stories of pinched / broken wires in those engines. Might be worth while pulling the shell and giving it a close inspection. A shorted wire could damage the decoder if you keep playing with it.

More than one possibility here.Visit Soundtraxx's website,click "manuals" in the bottom right corner,then "Diesel sound user's guide" then troubleshooting pages 57-59.
I would take the shell off and see if anything is binding the moving parts. Could be the decoder is picking up the overload because it's trying to move the motor, shaft, flywheel, etc and can't.

Thanks all for the ideas. I've downloaded the complete manual. I'm going to remove the shell and inspect for loose or broken wires, etc and fix as needed.
Well..removed the shell, checked that there was no binding, looked at each wire carefully and found nothing. Did a reset one more time (JMRI/Decoder Pro) and still have the same situation - loco shorts and/or overloads. Emailed Atheran regard the problem. I'm thinking the decoder is toast.
I suspect a faulty motor,likely a shorted armature.
Do the lights blink when applying power to the track?If so,how many blinks?In some cases,Tsunamis tell a trouble code this way.
If no trouble code and still no move,put engine on track.Using "OPS" mode,give CV30 a value of 2 then lift one side of loco off the track 2 seconds.Decoder should reset and loco respond to adress 3.If motor faulty,decoder will not reset.
This failing,disconnect decoder from motor (The Athearn I had,the decoder clipped onto brass tabs) then try running the motor with a DC pack or a 9V battery.Motor should turn...if not you have a dead motor.
If test conclusive,send an email to Athearn's service and explain the problem.They might send you a new motor...no big thing to replace and much simpler and faster than sending the loco and likely wait for them to fix it.
