Decoder for Proto2000 GP60
Posted by astapleford on Monday, November 17, 2014 3:23 PM

I have a Proto 2000 GP60, non-sound version. I want to install a 9 pin decoder. Are there any suggestions for the best decoder for this loco? I have removed the small circuit board from the connector and cable which is part of the main board, and am ready to install a decoder. I appreciate any all suggestions.

Thanks for your input!

The one I have is BNSF, and I've just recently taken it out to look it over. It appears at first glance that the ditch lights are dummy plastic, without LEDs.This is a little surprising, since other P2Ks do have additional light features that would be driven by a multi-function decoder. Is anyone else more familiar with whether ditch lights can be activated on these?

If only the headlights are lit on the stock loco, you may need only something like a Digitrax DH126.

NCE and TCS both make very tiny decoders with integrated pins that are a good fit for this type of install.

I put a TCS Kam-4 in my Santa Fe unit because I wanted the Keep Alive capability. It fit nicely.

For NON-sound, I'll throw in my support for TCS.
