Thanks Randy! I got it to work by giving withrottle and my phone same port #. On my buddy's layout, his Withrottle puts out a different configuration # each operating session, I just enter number in my phone and away I go. My Withrottle was also advertising a different configuration # each time I opened it. I'd enter it in my phone, but my phone never showed up on device list. So I hacked around, found a port #, entered port number on preference page and instantly everything works. I have googled hours for JMRI and found a wealth of information on how it works, but very little if it doesn't work. Oh well, now that panel pro works, off to see if decoder pro 3 works.

If you have a wireless router/firewall device between your computer and your internet connection, jsut completely disable WIndows Firewall. It's more problem than it's worth. With a router between you public access and your computer, you are using network address translationa nd unless you secifically allow connection inbound on the router, no one can just access your computer.

When you start the WiThrottle server side under JMRI, I believe you can specify what port is uses. Unless otherwise specifically allowed, this port will be blocke by Windows Firewall and/or any third party firewall that you might have.

There are 2 parts to the firewall - the application part, which you've already allowed panelpro.exe for, and the network side, which is where it's liekly being blocked. Like I said, I'd probabyl just disable it entirely. I haven't had the firewall enabled on any of my computers ever, and never have an issue.

I believe wireless router is working, as my laptop I'm using for JMRI sucuessful is able to go on the internet wireless, and my phone is operating on my home wifi. Everything is on the same network. I have firewall set to allow Panelpro.exe an enabled exception, which it does just fine. It's the just the Withrottle that won't work. I need more specific instructions. Withrottle website says it's usually a firewall, but offers no more help.

DO you have a firewall on your computer? Either Windwos Firewall or a third party security program?

Do you have the Bonjour service running? If so, it should advertise to your iphone, you shouldn;t have to ente the server IP.

Make sure your wireless router is working properly and that you have it's info.   Make sure the computer and handheld are both tied to that router.

Withrottle help
Posted by PupfosterG on Sunday, November 2, 2014 8:44 AM
I'm running JMRI successfully on my laptop. I've used Withrottle on my phone on a buddy's layout successfully. I am now attempting to run Withrottle on my layout. Withrottle is advertising. I have enter configure # manually, but can't connect. Both iPhone and withrottle are on the same network. I've even deleted and re downloaded withrottle app. What am I missing? I'm sure it's a simple fix, but I've wasted a number of hours on this. Need help, thanks!
