Thank you for the help and suggestions everyone. I think I've run down the culprit.

I had JMRI set to launch the web server automatically at launch And it seems like it was interfering with the WiThrottle app or at least confusing it.

As soon as I disabled it, everything became more snappy. In fact, I was running my pair of Walthers SD9s at the same time as my GP15s and trio of BLI SD9s.

Since you have working Tsunami decoders,I don't think your hardware is the cause here.Obviously you have two that have diffrences.I'd ask the Soundtraxx's tech support department what needs to be done to "match" these,if feasible. They should know.

I would post this on the Yahoo JMRI group. I recall seeing something similar with SPROG but that person had it in programming mode I think, not command station mode, and you indicated you've got it in command station mode in JMRI.

WHat version of JMRI are you using? I know there was some talk about modifications in the consisting feature over the past couple of weeks. I usuallu just scan the digests from the Yahoo group because there many features in JMRI I don;t and probably won't use.

I'm running the latest release version, 3.8.

You mention you're using a WiThrottle, Sprog, and JMRI -- but what type of DCC system do you have?  Use your DCC system directly to set up the consist and see what happens.

At our HO scale club layout where we use the NCE DCC system with ProCab Radio throttles, we set up and delete consists with the throttles all the time and never have problems.

That's the thing; the Sprog 3 (in command station mode), JMRI, and WiThrottle (or Engine Driver) -is- my DCC system. I don't think it's a lack of power as I've ran 10 locos (with a mix of sound and no sound) with no problem on the Sprog 3.

Do you think doing a factory reset would work, since I don't have any real changes to re-apply?

I don't think a factory reset would make any difference.  What I see as the possible problem is the hardware and software you're using to set up the consist instead of using your DCC controller directly.

That sounds entirely possible, as JMRI detected it as a Tsunami and when I drilled down through my options, there was specifically a Walthers OEM Tsunami Diesel, SD9 BNSF.

When I set them up, I did a full read of all the CVs (receiving no errors in the process), and the only changes I made were to set the addresses to their proper road numbers.

Do you think doing a factory reset would work, since I don't have any real changes to re-apply?

Thanks!

Some manufacturer installed Tsunamis are basic Tsunamis programmed specifically to the specific manufacturer's requests.

I believe you can read the CVs with JMRI,you could probably read the ones on the faulty locos and compare with the ones that work.Tedious but you'll likely find the culprit.

You could also visit Soundtraxx's website, open the "Diesel technical reference" manual and read what they say on CV19 through 23.However,you will not find specific infos for your hardware.

Unable to consist Walthers SD9s with Tsunamis (JMRI/Sprog 3)
Posted by O'Ghoul on Friday, October 24, 2014 2:41 PM

I just received two brand new WalthersProto SD9s with factory Tsunami decoders and am unable to get them to consist, either advanced or basic.  I use JMRI and WiThrottle to power a Sprog 3, on a laptop running Windows 7.  I am able to run consists made of Proto 1000 GP15s with aftermarket Tsunamis as well as Athearn GP60s with aftermarket Tsunamis without issue.

I can run each locomotive individually without problem.  All functions work.  However as soon as I try to do an advanced consist, the WiThrottle app quits responding.  The function buttons do not work, even the track power button does not work.  I tried the basic consisting by selecting a loco and then adding another to it.  This only results in the first loco working.  I even tried using Engine Driver on an Android phone.  It won't do it's basic consisting function either.

In order to resolve the issue, I have to power off my laptop and Sprog 3, and close the throttle apps on my phones.  After rebooting everything, I can once again control a locomotive individually.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Tim
