Question about decoders
Posted by Dressendorfer on Friday, October 17, 2014 5:33 PM

I'm new to the DCC world, and I had a question. When I program CVs for a locomotive, does the data get saved on my command station? or is data saved within the decoders themselves?

I'm trying to understand if the decoders are where the locomotives settings are stored, or if they are stored in my Command Station (or somewhere) and if the decoders just serve as a radio receiver and pass instructions on to the trains.

Any assistance understanding this is appreciated.

The data is saved on the decoder. That is why you can take it to a layout using any brand of DCC system, and the settings for the most part will work the same. My engines work on other systems very well. Though I do not have any settings, other then CV2 thru CV6 and CV29 programed in.
