WOWsound Diesel: any news?
Posted by gmpullman on Friday, October 17, 2014 3:06 PM

Hello all,

I have about a dozen first-gen EMDs (and a pair of SD-45s) awaiting sound decoder installs. I hear Whistling there is a TCS WOWsound decoder in the pipeline...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNc8HEfwJGk

I wondered if anybody out there has any updates on an availability date and will there be a 567 prime mover in the first release? Norm Stenzel in the above video doesn't specifically mention it.

If, like the Tsunami diesel roll-out, the availability is years away I'll go with Loksound but I'm really interested in what TCS will offer.

I have a few WOWsound steam decoders and I'm mighty impressed... jury is still out on the voice-prompt programming (she has a nice voice, though) I much prefer Decoder Pro programming. I haven't downloaded the most recent JMRI version but maybe there's more functionality for the WOWsound...

Thanks, Ed

With the wide variety of prime movers, horns, bells, etc. available for diesel locomotives, it's understandable that development of the diesel WOW! Sound decoder is taking a long time, compared to the steam version.

Agreed... Their steam version has quite a cornucopia of sounds as well so it should be "old hat" for TCS to get their Diesel version to market. Beta units are out there I just wondered if anybody had heard any release dates yet.

I want to finish up a few sound projects and if the WOWsound isn't too far away I'd like to try a few of them...

Thanks, Ed

It would make sense to contact TCS directly. Here you will get opinions. Maybe if someone already has, at least quote what TCS would have said.

Hi Ed,

We are hoping to have the first release of the WOWSound Diesel decoder out by the end of this year. Early 2015 at the latest. The first release will be all EMD and will have a 567 that will blow your socks off!

Best Regards,
Norm Stenzel

So... I'll be waiting and ready!
