Wire source for Scotchlok connectors
Posted by Railbox1974 on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 7:21 PM

Looking for wire with a soft insulation coating that would work well with Scotchlok connectors. The wire found at the major home improvement centers seems to have a hard coating that is not too compatible.

Can anyone recommend a good source for a softer insulated wire?

Thanks!

Try the wire found at auto stores, Radio Shack, or an electronics supply provider.

The hard coating you talk about is generally because of the requirement that insulation resists burning for use in residential, commericial, and industrial locations governed by code restrictions.

I learned the hard way. Solder the main bus and all your feeders. I tried scotchloks and had problems. Just some advice!!

Meehan is correct, the wire sold in the automotive section of Wally World has a softer rubbery plastic as compared to the hard plastic at Lowes.
Come on CMW, make a '41-'46 Chevy school bus!
