No brake squeal?
Posted by toolanddie on Sunday, September 14, 2014 7:37 PM

Hello

I have a Digitrax Super Chief 5 Amp dcc system. I have 4 HO engines, a BLI,walthers Proto , Atlas with ESU Loksound, and a Proto 2000 with ESU Loksound. I have all the sounds they should have except no brake squeal when I reduce speed.

I have reset everything several times. I have adjusted any CV that might have anything to do with brakes or volume

Any ideas why I have no brake squeal? Thank you for for your help in advance

Brake squeal should sound only at the last minute as a train stops -- and not so if you gradually reduce the speed setting.

For a quick demonstration (with Loksound) - run along at mid throttle and slam it off - that'll give you your brake squeal !

Mark.

If I recall correctly, the earlier QSI decoders (and they probably still do...) required the loco to rise above 40 scale mph, and then the throttle had to be moved to zero BEFORE the loco came to a halt, but from above a certain speed.  So, you'd have to run a passenger locomotive at 40+, then reduce speed, and then close the throttle while the train came to a stop at the station.  The QSI's always squeal for me when I do that.

I don't recall that BLI's new Paragon type decoders have that function.
