When in doubt, call TCS-they are very helpful.

P.S. Again I ask, did you program the appropriate CV?
If you want to have the aux light effrect with independent control via a decoder then you have to move the aux bulb wires to other tabs. In the pic, the two tabs circled in green are the 1.5V output controlled by the green wire of the 9 pin JST connector & the tabs circled in purple are controlled by the purple wire.

Mark R. Just so I'm clear .... you say you are using a T4X decoder in your opening post, then your second post you are referring to the positive "pad". (?) The T4X is a shrink wrapped decoder with wire leads. The A4X is an Atlas style board with solder pads. Which one are you using ? Mark.

if using a T4X. I'm referring to the pads on the lightboard in the locomotive, one of those Athearn Genesis ones with the function pads on one side.

When I started on the lighting effect, I programmed it to work in both directions. The wiring diagram showed the positive wired up as a common connection with the rest of the lights, therefore I connected the positive lead to the positive pad for the actual headlights. I have a feeling this is the cause, but I don't know for sure since I've never worked with any TCS products until now.
Did you set CV51 to 38 per the instructions for F1?
Today, I installed a TCS T4X decoder in my Athearn Genesis F45 and wired up a beacon light for it also. When I press the F1 button on my NCE power cab, it lights up, but turns off when the headlight button is pressed, therefore I cannot control each light independently like I want to. How can I fix this so I can control each light independently without the beacon light going off? I can't figure out whether I did something wrong with wiring the beacon or what.
