CV29 and NCEpower pro
Posted by Blind Bruce on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 10:55 AM

I would like to check ALL of my locos for the value in CV29. I have NO program track at this time.

Can I read the CVs "on the main" without removing all the other locos from the layout?

I know the procedure to SET the value. I only want to READ the value currently there.

Short answer is no, it is impossible to read cv on the main.

IIRC you have a Power Cab then your whole layout can be considered as a program track by your system.

Of course only one locomotive at the time can be on the layout.

The programming track DOES NOT have to be part of the layout.  On the PowerPro, there are two screw terminals that connect to the programming track.  Just use one piece of flextrack, solder a wire to each rail and connect them to the two screws.  Piece of cake.

Elmer.

The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.

(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.

Elmer is right.

The programming track can even be temporary.  Just hang two wires from the command station and a pair of feeders connected to the temporary programming track.  Then just twist the wires together when you want to use the programming track.
