Unless it is a closed Android system, more like the Kindles which only use the Amazon store instead of other Android devices that can use the Google Play store, you should be able to run Engine Driver on it. The bigger question, is if the knob and so forth will be accessible to third party apps like Engine Driver.
This has been a recent topic of discussion on the JMRI Group about such things, including alternates to sliding your figure - for example there are several joystick devices for iPads that just sit on the screen where the game has a touch joystick, so you have a physical stick rather than tapping your finger. Something like that should work with the existing WiThrottle and Engine Driver.

Very Interesting,
The next thing to ask is if the 'open app' nature allows something like 'Engine Driver' or does this unit work with JMRI to a DCC Command Station right out of the box? The FAQ mentions the ability to load other Android apps via Google Play. And, what will be the actual 'Street Price'?
My Samsung smart phone has Engine Driver loaded on it, and it really is a good throttle for my layout. The 'volume' rocker button' on the side makes a very good 'throttle. Some smart phones do not have that, and one must use your finger to slide the throttle on the screen - Not very good for switching!

ESU has come out with an Android powered throttle for ECOS. No need to use your smartphone anymore. I am sure with the open arcitecture that someone will be able to use it with JMRI through WIFI.
