I Positioned the wheels 1/4 from each pin.  it now works like new.  I love to get it converted to dcc mode and have some sound comming from it, but thats another project in the future.

MSTrainMan74

thanks everyone,  i finally got it to run!  kudos to all!!

What did you do to get it to run? I am sure others would like to know.

By the way, there is a Bachmann set of forums for different scales with a couple Bachmann reps, DCC documents, loco diagrams, etc.

Kay.Div.,

One of the easiest ways of getting it working again, is to draw a diagram of both sides of the side rod positions, before taking it apart, especially the driver with the shaft, that's the one with the axle gear. One side almost up, one side almost down. To get it perfect, involves more work and may not be necessary.

Great info guys, I have a 2-8-0 that I have to replace a cracked gear in and I know I will have to re quarter it, how is it done and how easy is it?  None of my local LHS want to tackle it.

The guys are right.  I made that mistake when I added the DCC decoder to my grandson's Hogwarts Express.

MSTrainMan74,

Welcome To The Forums.

Just to add to Randy's advice. To make sure the drivers are out of quarter, my guess also that they are. Remove the side rods from one side and see how it runs, if it doesn't, you know that is not the problem.

Sounds liek maybe when you too it apart you got the drivers out of quarter. On a steam locomotive, the position of the crank pins is 90 degrees off fromt he opposite side, and all on one side have to be the same, otherwise the side rods will jam when the wheels attempt to rotate.

hello,

I got a problem with my bachmann hogwarts express train HO.  I had placed in a new moter, regeased the gears and oiled the wheels, but when i place it on the tracks, and turned on the controller, it moves slightly, then stops as if its stuck.  changed direction, and did the same.  what am i missing?
