So I am debating either the

SDXH166D Premium 1 Amp Sound Decoder HO Scale

or
SDH166D Standard 1 Amp Sound Decoder HO Scale

for instalation in my new engine.  Opinions on either or on what you've put in the engine.

My vote would have to go to C: none of the above...

After installing my first TCS WOWsound decoder I'm pretty convinced that, at present, they are the best choice for steam sound and MOTOR control.

The stay alive feature is worth every penny of additional cost.

I have installed some Tsunami sound and I have many QSI and Paragon2s, but that WOWsound decoder is going into any of my future steam installs.

Sure hope the Diesel version is along soon!

Have fun, Ed

The Digitrax ones are brand new, not going to be too many installed yet. And if you do go with them, don't even consider the SDH, get the SDXH, there's a HUGE difference in sound quality. The SDXH is 16 bit sound recordings, the SDH is the old 8 bit sounds.

The only plug and play sound decoders are those awful MRC once witht he teeny tiny speaker already soldered to the circuit board. Any other sound decoder will require you to at least install the speaker and enclosure. The WOW Sound has an 8 pin harness just like the Digitrax ones.
