Decoder advice for Rivarossi Y6b
Posted by friend611 on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 6:33 PM
I would like to have some advice on what decoder/sound unit would be best for conversion of my HO scale Rivarossi N&W Y6b. This is the last run #2174. I also own a older AHM version, but it is not being considered for conversion at this time, being kept for display purposes.

For sound, your best choices would be a LokSound Select or Tsunami.  They are the only two that may have the correct whistle.

Hi Friend,
About 4 or 5yrs back I acquired a Roco UP (exN&W) Y3b.  Having problems with Esu wiring harnesses at the time and steam decoders a bit thin on the ground I went for a QSI QR-AU chip and found it great, also it worked out cheaper than the Esu over here at that time (UK).  It had a good control range and the artic sound was great although never having heard one I can’t say as to it having the right whistle.
Be in touch.
