Resetting Factory Installed Tsunami
Posted by RogerThat on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 7:19 AM

Simple question. If I reset the Tsunami decoder in an Athearn Genesis locomotive, will it reset to the Tsunami defaults or the Athearn defaults?

Thanks,

Roger

Are there such a thing as Athearn defaults?  If so, then that's what it will reset to.

There are no Athearn defaults.

A reset will be to Tsunami factory defaults.

However, that said, it should be noted that the TSU-GN1000 is specifically designed for the Athearn Genesis, including built in voltage regulators for the 1.5 volt Genesis lights and the F5 and F6 function outputs for headlights and Mars lights.

Thanks for the quick replies. I have downloaded both the Tsunami manuals and the Athearn manuals and even the function assignments between them are different. So correct me if I'm wrong, the decoder in my Athearn loco is a custom decoder, different than the aftermarket Tsunamis, and as such is programmed at Soundtraxx to Athearn specifications. Therefore, resetting will return it to what I called Athearn defaults.

Thanks again,

Roger

You may want to look a this: http://www.soundtraxx.com/factory/

Find you locomotive and then set to the factory specks.

Roger, yes, Soundtraxx adapted the Tsunami TSU-1000 to Athearn's specifications for the Genesis diesel.

When you refer to the "Athearn manual", what specific document are you referring to?

Most times, factory installed Tsunami decoders don't have all the features regular Tsunami do.So resetting to Soundtraxx's defaults may not give you the desired results anyway since some CV inputs will simply be ignored.

I'm not sure that we asked this, but is the Tsunami decoder that you have, the TSU-GN1000?

I don't know if you be able to tell what decoder is in the Athearn unit by looking it.

A call to SoundTraxx might tell you the version # that they make for the unit.

Anyway just look for your locomotive in this : http://www.soundtraxx.com/factory/

BTW what locomotive are we dworking with here?

My locomotive is the Genesis GP9 NYC 6028 w/sound. The Athearn defaults I mentioned are from the www.soundtraxx.com/factory/athearn site. My question really was meant to be simple. If I reset decoder will it be like it was new in box the way Athearn shipped it or would it reset to some other Soundtraxx defaults. I believe the answer is like new in box. Sorry for the confusion.

Really simple. It will be to Athearn's defaults. Makes sense. It was shipped with Athearn defaults.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.

It will have the GN marking on the decoder.
